Hyundai launch 2014 programme

WRC returnees Hyundai officially launched their WRC program in Frankfurt today.

With Juho Hanninen and Thierry Neuville already confirmed for the Korean manufacturer, former Citroen and Mini driver Dani Sordo and former Subaru Driver Chris Atkinson were also added to the lineup.

Whilst Neuville will complete the full campaign, Hanninen, Sordo and Atkinson will all drive the second Hyundai i20 at selected events. Sordo will drive the season opener in Monte Carlo whilst Hanninen will drive at the following round in Sweden. Atkinson has already been confirmed for Rally Australia.

Despite 2014 being the team's debut season, Sordo was impressed with what they had to offer.

"It might be a young team but there is a high level of experience and professionalism that makes the team a really appealing package." said the Spaniard.

Atkinson, who's already tested the car, said: “It’s been a pleasure to be part of Hyundai Motorsport in testing this season and to have had the chance to contribute to the development of the i20 WRC.

“It’s fantastic to be able to carry on with the team into 2014, our first WRC season, and to be able to drive in Rally Australia later in the year.”

Shell has also joined the team as it's main sponsor. The Dutch firm's, logos will appear on the car with the team being named Hyundai Shell World Rally Team.
