Joni Wiman crowned Red Bull GRC Champion

Joni Wiman was crowned 2014 Red Bull Global Rallycross Champion yesterday after a thrilling final event of the season in Las Vegas.

Despite not winning a race this season, the Finn took the title with 381 points - five ahead of his nearest rival Ken Block, taking five podiums this season and only failing to make the main event once (at X Games Austin)

"At the start of the season I would have said I would be happy with a result in the top three of this championship," Said Wiman, "to win it in the final race of the season feels amazing."

Also scooping rookie of the year honours (the first champion to do so), 2014 was Wiman's first year in the top level Supercars class. His move up to the top level came after a dominant 2013 season in GRC Lites where he won every event of the season on his was to the title.

Olsbergs MSE stablemate Mitchell De Jong followed in Wiman's footsteps by taking the GRC Lites title.

In an expanded season, 17-year-old De Jong took a record seven wins out of nine to clinch the championship with one round remaining.
