Hulkenberg to race for Porsche in 2015

Porsche have announced that Formula One driver Nico Hulkenberg will race for them at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans as part of the driver lineup for their third 919 Hybrid prototype.

The 27-year-old German, who will also be racing for Sahara Force India in Formula One in 2015, will race the LMP1-H car at the Six Hours of Spa as well in preparation for the WEC's flagship event.

It wont be the first time Hulkenberg has driven Porsche machinery. He tested a 911 Hybrid racer in 2010 when racing for Williams - Porsche's engineering partner for that project.

Posting on his official Twitter account, Hulkenberg said: "Great news! I will also be #Racing for @PorscheRaces at #24hLeMans in 2015. Thanks @TheVijayMallya for the support! #challenge #excited"

The last active Formula One driver to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans was Sebastien Bourdias, who took part in the endurance race in 2009 whilst competing for Scuderia Toro Rosso in Formula One

Hulkenberg's chance with Porsche comes after another high profile Formula One driver, Mark Webber, moved to the Stuttgart manufacturer for the 2014 season.

Webber, who had previously raced sports cars for Mercedes, has scored three podiums so far this season with the finale taking place in Brazil this weekend.
