The Red Bull Global Rallycross series descended on Daytona International Speedway yesterday for round six of the season. Nelson Piquet Jr. headed Florida as the series points leader, 46 points ahead of Scott Speed.
Meanwhile a resurgent Ken Block came into the weekend looking to gain some ground on the leaders after claiming his first win of the season at the previous round in Charlotte.
Qualifying saw Joni Wiman claim his first pole position of the season, ahead of Speed and Patrick Sandell with a quick Rhys Millen in fourth. Ken Block rounded out the top five whilst championship leader Nelson Piquet Jr. was down in ninth, ahead of Tanner Foust in tenth who's bad luck continued.
The top three qualifiers followed up their quick times win a win each in the first round of heats. Wiman doubled up with victory in the second round of heats, but both Block and Piquet Jr. beat Sandell to the checkered flag in heat 2B whilst mechanical failures for both Speed and Millen saw Steven Arpin claim the win in heat 2C.
The event concludes today with Semi Finals, the Last Chance Qualifier and an eight lap final for the Supercars.
Away from the top class, GRC Lites will also be back in action today.
Mitchel De Jong continued his impressive run so far this season by adding another comfortable win to his CV in the first round of heats.
Today sees another round of heats and the main event for the spec series.
