Millen and Gilmour team up for GRC assault

Rhys Millen has announced he will return to the Red Bull Global Rallycross series this season, once again driving a Hyundai Veloster supercar prepared by his own Rhys Millen Racing squad.

Joining the Pikes Peak star in the two car team will be New Zealand rally champion Emma Gilmour, who will become the first female driver to compete in a GRC event when she lines up at Top Gear Festival Barbados for the season opener in May.

“I couldn’t be more honoured to join the Hyundai/RMR Global Rallycross team for the 2014 season,” she said, “Rhys is known worldwide for his precise and consistent rally skills, and my years of successful rally experience are a perfect fit for the RMR team effort. It’s a true privilege to be the first female driver in the GRC series, and I’m confident my performance will open up more opportunities for a number of great female rally drivers in the future.”

Millen, also a movie stunt driver, who's worked on the Fast and Furious films as well as the recently released Need For Speed, will be the first GRC driver to sport the series' title sponsor Red Bull's colours, having been sponsored by the Austrian energy drinks firm for a number of years. He previously finished third in the series standings in both 2011 and 2012, leading Hyundai to runner up spot in the manufacturers championship in the latter.

Rhys Millen Racing will also run Tyler Benson in the GRC Lites category this season, becoming only the second team after Olsbergs MSE to run cars in both Supercars and GRC Lites.

Benson, who started three GRC Lites events last year, has already run a test program with the RMR team.

"Coming off this last weekend of testing, my confidence has gone through the roof, so I’m chomping at the bit for the season to get going and really push this year" said Benson.
