Rosenqvist and Russell share the spoils in Euro F3

Felix Rosenqvist and George Russell won the opening two rounds of the FIA European Formula Three championship at Silverstone in a pair of disrupted races.

Rosenqvist initially qualified on pole for all three of the weekend's races but was sent to the back of the grid for the second and third races thanks to an apparent loose screw.

The first race began behind the safety car due to an early morning rain shower and when the safety car peeled into the pits the eventual to three finishers, Rosenqvist, Antonio Giovinazzi and Jake Dennis got away from the pack as three top rookie drivers George Russell, Charles Leclerc and Brandon Maisano all collided behind them.

Despite a late challenge for third from Lotus F1 junior Alexander Albon, Rosenqvist, Giovinazzi and Dennis took the top spots.

Race two saw a phenominal drive from Rosenqvist which saw him climb from 35th on the grid to an impressive seventh place.

A first lap incident saw Sergio Sette Camara, Tatiana Calderon, Michele Beretta and Sam MacLeod all wiped out, bringing out the second safety car in as many races.

Brit George Russell took his maiden Formula Three win in the race, which was only his second start in the category. He held off Van Amersfooort's Charles Leclerc for the win while Antonio Giovinazzi took another podium with third.
