North America's Global Rallycross championship has announced a deal that will see energy drinks firm Red Bull become the series' title sponsor.
The Austrian company, which already had some involvement in the GRC as a sponsor to Travis Pastrana's Dodge Dart entries, adds GRC to an ever growing commercial portfolio which includes F1, WRC, Moto GP, football, ice hockey and various extreme sports.
The deal, announced in Las Vegas this week, marks the first time in which the young series has had a title sponsor and it's already clear that Red Bull will be used to help expand the sport further.
"We see the team at Red Bull not just as our sponsor, but truly as our
partner in helping us to build Global Rallycross into the premier
motorsports platform,” said GRC COE Colin Dyne. “Their
legacy of growing brands in the motorsports arena, from Formula One to
motocross and beyond, makes them the perfect partner to take Global
Rallycross to the next level."
The GRC season concludes on November 6-7 in las Vegas, Nevada. Toomas Heikkinen has already wrapped up the championship after an impressive season with five consecutive wins, including two X games gold medals.
